Nancy Alfred Persily
Our recent class president (1999-2004)
Although Nancy faced the challenge of stage-four breast cancer for several years, in no way did this diminish her determination to live fully. She suffered numerous setbacks, some of them extreme, but Nancy bounced back with astonishing determination and speed, continuing to enjoy her life and loved ones without interruption.
Nancy graduated from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell and received her Masters in Public Health from Yale University in 1966. Her career was one of great success as a private consultant in public health and as Associate Dean at Georgetown University School of Public Health and later as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the State University of New York/Albany School of Public Health. Nancy was married to Andrew Persily, class of ’66, who died in 1984 leaving her as a single parent of son Nathan and daughter Meredith. She had two young grandsons with whom she spent every minute she could.
Nancy remained closely involved with the class
to the end of her life. She was knowledgeable, supportive and unfailingly
kind and generous with her time and her many talents. Her warmth and humor
were always in evidence and she brought both levity and gravitas to class
activities and meetings. We miss her deeply. Her children continue the
scholarship fund established in 1984 in Andrew’s name, now renamed the
Nancy
and Andrew Persily Scholarship Fund. Anyone wishing to donate to the fund or
