The meeting was called to order about 10:15 by
Janet Spencer King (Class meetings have been changed from Sat. afternoon to
the morning).
1. Class Gift for Social Sciences (Janet
King)
Janet moved that we give our class gift of
$5,000 to Social Sciences to hold two luncheons a year for two years for new
and untenured faculty. This was suggested by Lenni Weitzman at a previous
meeting.
The motion was seconded and approved.
2. Treasurer’s Report (Linda Meltzer)
Linda reported that our class is still in
sound financial shape despite some losses from our long term investments.
There were 480 dues payers and 550 bad addresses. We have funds from reunion
surpluses.
3. Fundraising (Janet King)
Janet announced that we have reached 83% of
our fund raising goal of $3.8 million for the class of ’64 reunion campaign.
4. 45th Reunion
The remainder of the meeting was devoted to
discussing plans for our 45th reunion. The reunion co-chairs are
Stan Morgenstein and Arnie and Mary Hammer. Committee chairs were announced
and the schedule of events was discussed. Stan asked for volunteers to scout
out each event ahead of time to be sure everything is ready.
A photographer will be present Friday
afternoon to take class pictures as well as other pictures as requested
(e.g. fraternities and sororities). The charge for the class picture will be
included in the weekend charge which will be $315.00 for the whole weekend
(early bird, before May 1), and $340.00 after May 2. The charge for Friday
to Sunday will be $260.00 and $285.00, respectively. Housing (Keeton House)
will be an additional $118.50 for the full weekend.
A format for the Class Forum was discussed.
Janet suggested David Smith from the Department of Psychology. This
possibility will be researched further. Bob Filner, Congressman from San
Diego, was also considered.
Bobbie is in charge of organizing the class
hike. She has contacted Alice Friedenson for assistance. The hike is now
scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Plantations and will be 3-4 miles.
It will follow the class of ’64 picnic lunch at the Plantations.
We will organize affinity phone calls
(fraternities, sororities, sports teams etc.) to encourage classmates to
come to Reunion. About 20 volunteers are needed.
Rich Glick spoke about our Reunion campaign.
We are second only to the class of ’39. Tower Club gifts are going well.
People are giving gifts who haven’t before. This is a critical time as the
New York State budget reductions have hit Cornell hard.
The JFK award presentation will by made by
Cindy Wolloch and Joan Melville Friday night after dinner. We talked about
an oral presentation by awardees. Cindy would interview past awardees and
make an audio and graphic presentation.
Publicity: Don Allen has volunteered to help.
Deadline for News and Views is March 1 and for Alumni news this Wednesday.
Budget: We are trying to keep the bottom line
low ($315.00 for full weekend). Alcoholic beverages (wine and beer only are
included in final dinner). We talked about allowing a reduction for
classmates who would not be able to attend otherwise due to the impact of
the economy.
Food: vegetarian and kosher options; other
special needs can be accommodated.
Souvenirs: Red plush throw with the class
logo.
Housing (Dennis Sweeney): Headquarters will be
Keeton House which has handicap access. The rooms are mostly singles. We
will need 6 clerks. Dennis will be there Tuesday of Reunion week to put
together packets. Email Arnie if anyone wants to arrive early.
Meeting was adjourned for the luncheon followed by afternoon
sessions.
